Harris Pandering During the Presidential Debate

 Following last night's 2024 Presidential Debate, it was clear Trump and Harris rarely saw eye to eye on any policy, but something they did agree on was Israel's right to defend itself. Trump was strong on his belief that Israel would cease to exist if Harris became the president, and Trump promises he would promptly put an end to the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, Harris panders towards supporters of both Israel and Palestine during the debate.

Harris was careful to give both sides, Arab-Americans and Jewish voters, what they wanted to hear during the debate. Harris double downed on her support for Israel and its right to defend itself, but adds that it comes to a certain standard or extent to how they defend itself. Harris defines that their defense is in particular to its relation with Iran and threats Iran poses towards Israel. 

Harris later mentions innocent Palestinian lives, around 40 million as stated by fact checkers, who have been slaughtered by Israel. While she defends Israel, she demands a ceasefire as well which contradicts her previous statements. Harris later poses a two-state solution so Gaza can be rebuilt and Palestinians can flourish in their independence. 


The Jerusalem Post reminds readers how Israel's brief section of the debate reminds viewers that it appears to be "reduced to a political talking point." This is disheartening considering how many innocent Israeli and Palestinian humans have been killed, and how many hostages from both sides still need to be freed. Harris's plans for Israel and Palestine seem grim and her pandering towards both sides to maintain voters is showing how her policies are lacking substance and refinery.

    Hi Cj! This is a great post that explains the pandering that took place in the 2024 election debate. I watched the debate and after reading your blog, I am realizing that I did not pay enough attention to the pandering that occurred. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the constant arguing in the debate and who's side you are on without fully seeing the depth of the debate techniques. I really like how you mention that Harris contradicted herself when she demanded a ceasefire. I felt as though the debate for Harris was not authentic at all. Most of her policies she spoke on were contradictory to what she has said in the past. Sadly, at the end of the day, it is all about the votes which I think can be a slippery slope when America is at stake. Part of being the President is choosing your battles, but it seems that Harris wants to please both supporters of the Israeli and Palestinians. However, it is important to do what is best for the United States first and then the rest of the world second. Do you agree with that? I am excited to read more of your blog!

It's been about a week and some change since the 2024 United States Presidential Election, and whether sad or happy about the results, Donald Trump has been elected by the American people as our next president. Given the news, I wanted to discuss how pandering worked out for each candidate. Trump Clocked In At McDonald's and Walz Calls Out Pandering

 In the staged event on Sunday, Trump was in a McDonald's in Pennsylvania "serving" up fries for customers to depict his ability to empathize and connect with the working class. While this could be in good faith, many were quick to jump at Trump for pandering to working class audiences by pretending to work at McDonald's. According to an article by CNN , the store was closed for a campaign stop, and Trump decided to put an apron on and work as a fry attendant.  Many politicians like Tim Walz were quick to point out this as blatant pandering, as Trump has never had to work a fast food, low income job in his life. Not to mention the store was closed during the event, and he did not serve customers outside of the campaign event he was doing. Is Harris Pandering Towards Conservatives?

 In a recent interview Kamala Harris took part in, she was pressed about gender-affirming care for transgender Americans. This is coming off Trump's campaign being especially anti transgender rights, and many are wondering how Harris feels on the issue. It's also important for young millennial and generation Z voters identify with Harris more, but she won't give a specific and clear answer to the questions asked on gender-affirming care. A big criticism on Harris has been her lack of clear policy, but she is adamant on being anti-Trump rather than her own candidate.  In an article by USA Today , Harris says that "we should follow the law" and then points fingers at Trump and proceeds to say she will not put herself in the position of doctors to make the decision of whatever is medically necessary.  These quotes emphasize that Harris is not as liberal thinking as many younger voters would like her to be, and that she has uncertain policies on the rights many voters...
