So... How Well Did Pandering Work
It's been about a week and some change since the 2024 United States Presidential Election, and whether sad or happy about the results, Donald Trump has been elected by the American people as our next president. Given the news, I wanted to discuss how pandering worked out for each candidate.
For Harris, she was recognized for having a good campaign in the few months she was able to campaign, but in the end it was not enough. She was known for pandering towards younger audiences, but even then, she was not certain on issues that young voters cared the most about. She took a majority of her campaign to describe abortion rights, which were incredibly controversial among conservative audiences. In an article by Yahoo! News, they suggest her inability to campaign other issues voters had was a reason as to why her hype did not translate into votes. She pandered to several demographics, but it appears her strategy did not work in her favor as some voters felt alienated by her stances
Trump, on the other hand, did pander a lot as well. His pandering though seemed to work out for him, as he knew which issues his followers cared about the most. His pandering towards the working class about a better economy and immigration laws tightening caught attention of Americans without them knowing what exactly he was planning on doing. We can see the surge of widespread worry about what Trump's Tariff plan is, yet it was swept under the rug during his campaign.

ReplyDeleteI see a lot of content criticizing Harris for actually isolating voters by emphasizing her support for particular demographics. I think this is interesting because should we not always strive to be inclusive in this day and age? There was also a lot of villainization coming from each party, which I believe did not produce the intended results. Harris repeatedly called Trump a fascist who will lead us closer to authoritarianism. Trump fired back by calling her lazy and stupid, pointing to her perceived inabilities as Vice President. I think he definitely gained more traction by emphasizing that the current administration had "done nothing" over the past four years, resulting in people wanting change. Although Harris has many supporters, at least two-thirds of her voters are motivated by preserving democracy. However, I suppose this was not enough in the end.

This post provides an insightful comparison of how pandering strategies influenced the 2024 election. While Harris struggled to connect with key demographics, Trump's targeted messaging resonated more effectively, albeit with concerns about transparency. It highlights the importance of addressing diverse voter priorities authentically.

ReplyDeleteHello. This post highlights how superb pandering can rely on appreciation key voter concerns. Harris’s center of attention on abortion rights resonated with some, however her lack of ability to tackle broader troubles vital to younger voters may additionally have confined her appeal. Her campaign’s perceived slender focal point probably left many feeling unheard. Conversely, Trump’s success suggests how focused messaging especially on financial and immigration issues can mobilize voters, even when coverage specifics continue to be vague. His potential to join with the working type regardless of uncertainties about plans like tariffs demonstrates how attractive to feelings and fears can outweigh distinct coverage discussions in present day political campaigns.
